Female fallow deer that had fallen in the ‘La Culebrina’ fortress in San Fulgencio rescued

  • The animal could be recovered thanks to the collaboration between Local Police, Civil Guard, Firefighters and neighbors of the area

The Councilor for Animal Welfare of the San Fulgencio City Council, Ana Mª Villena, has reported the rescue of a female fallow deer that took place yesterday morning in the municipality of the town. “This is a case for which, given the extraordinary situation, there is no protocol for the rescue of this type of animals, either from the City Council or from Seprona, which also does not carry out animal collections on Sundays, for what we had to carry out between the agents of the Local Police, Civil Guard and Firefighters, in addition to the invaluable collaboration of the neighborhood, ”said Villena

After the call of the fallow deer sighting by volunteers from the association La Voz Animal de San Fulgencio, the Local Police were notified, whose agents “tried for a long time to surround the animal for capture by monitoring it by car,” explained the councilor. However, and in an attempt to escape, the animal’s confusion led him to jump into the water of the “La Culebrina” chancebe, with the consequent danger of drowning.

“Our priority was the health and well-being of the animal, and we had to try to get it out of the water as it was,” said Villena, who has recounted how the Firefighters of the Provincial Consortium of Alicante were subsequently notified. In this way, with the help of a rope, and the participation of residents of the area, among whom was also the councilor of San Fulgencio, Francisco Molero, it was possible to remove the animal from the ditch.

The mayor wanted to thank all the people and security forces that were involved in the rescue of this specimen of fallow deer, showing that “San Fulgencio is a municipality in which awareness and concern for animal welfare are very present, as has become clear with this intervention ”. Likewise, the animal has been transferred to the facilities of the nearby Río Safari zoo in Elche for its care and veterinary examination.
