El alcalde de San Fulgencio, José Sampere, y el concejal de Relaciones Internacionales, Darren Parmenter, han participado hoy junto al secretario autonómico para la Unión Europea y Relaciones Externas, Joan Calabuig, y la Directora Territorial Antonia Moreno, en la reunión convocada en el Teatro Cardenal Belluga para tratar los efectos del Brexit en la ciudadanía británica del municipio. El objetivo de este encuentro, al que han asistido vecinos y asociaciones de residentes británicos, ha sido transmitir las posibles consecuencias negativas que las actuales condiciones para residir en España en el futuro tienen para los ciudadanos de esta nacionalidad y que podrían afectar de forma negativa a localidades como San Fulgencio. El alcalde ha manifestado que “somos un municipio abierto a residentes de otros países de la Unión Europea, elegido por una amplia mayoría de ciudadanos del Reino Unido para vivir, y por eso les queremos facilitar al máximo cualquier trámite que tengan que realizar para venir a raíz de la salida de su país de origen de la UE”.
El concejal de Relaciones Internacionales, Darren Parmenter, ha expuesto que el principal problema para los británicos que solicitan la residencia tras el Brexit y que no están incluidas en el ámbito de aplicación del Acuerdo de Retirada “son los requisitos económicos para poder optar a un visado de tipo no lucrativo, el más solicitado”. Según estas condiciones, tal y como ha explicado el edil, “se exigen unos ingresos mínimos muy elevados que, por ejemplo, un matrimonio de jubilados, el perfil de residente más habitual, no puede asumir en la mayoría de las ocasiones”. Así, para poder solicitar este visado, una pareja de estas características debería disponer de ingresos superiores a los 2.800 euros al mes, o contar con una cantidad equivalente por un año en su entidad bancaria, elevándolo a más de 33.800 euros. Las condiciones económicas serán más duras cuando haya que renovar este primer visado al cabo de un año con el requisito de que “el solicitante debe tener el doble de la cantidad original que tenía en el banco en el momento de la primera solicitud de visado o seguir recibiendo los ingresos mensuales mínimos requeridos”, ha informado Parmenter.
Tanto el concejal de Residentes Internacionales como el alcalde del municipio han señalado las consecuencias negativas que estas exigencias podrían tener para San Fulgencio, al hacer que los ciudadanos británicos decidieran retirarse en otros países de la Unión Europea con requisitos más flexibles para establecerse, como Francia o Portugal. A largo plazo, el primer edil estima que esta situación afectaría a las cifras de empadronamiento, ya que “reduciría significativamente nuestro número de habitantes”, además de afectar también a la economía del municipio, y repercutir de manera negativa en las ventas de inmuebles y en los negocios locales en los que consumen o de los que son propietarios estos residentes internacionales.
Por su parte, el secretario autonómico para la Unión Europea y Relaciones Externas ha recordado que la Generalitat Valencia lleva mucho tiempo trabajando para minimizar los efectos de la nueva situación en los residentes británicos. “Antes de la salida de Reino Unido ya iniciamos las reuniones y, desde entonces, los contactos han sido continuos con el Gobierno, la Embajada y el Consulado”. Garantizar los derechos de los residentes ingleses en la Comunidad y los de los valencianos en el Reino Unido, mantener los intercambios comerciales y garantizar la permanencia de los intercambios turísticos, han sido tres de las prioridades para la Generalitat Valenciana. De hecho, el próximo lunes el presidente de la Generalitat, Ximo Puig, se reunirá con el Embajador Británico.
Calabuig ha explicado que “fruto del esfuerzo y la responsabilidad de la ciudadanía” la Comunidad Valencia cuenta con las mejores cifras de España en incidencia del Coronavirus, por lo que se seguirá insistiendo para que Reino Unido autorice los viajes teniendo en cuenta el ámbito regional y no el nacional. “Llevamos mucho tiempo trabajando para conseguir que la Comunidad tenga la misma consideración que las islas y vamos a seguir haciéndolo”, ha afirmado.
