El Ayuntamiento de San Fulgencio ha iniciado una campaña de información sobre el padrón municipal y la solicitud de residencia dirigida a los ciudadanos de las diferentes nacionalidades que residen en el municipio. Tal y como ha indicado el concejal de Relaciones Internacionales, Darren Parmenter, “el objetivo de esta iniciativa es informar y recordar a la gente lo que es el padrón y su utilidad, y al mismo tiempo desmentir muchos de los mitos que lo rodean y en ocasiones pueden llevar a algunas reticencias para realizar su inscripción”.
Durante los próximos días se distribuirán por todo el municipio carteles y trípticos traducidos a cuatro idiomas (español, inglés, francés y alemán), que estarán disponibles “tanto en los edificios municipales de San Fulgencio como bares, cafeterías y negocios locales del pueblo y las urbanizaciones, al alcance de cualquier residente que lo necesite”, ha manifestado Parmenter. La iniciativa se ha llevado a cabo gracias a una subvención de 1.380 euros de la Diputación Provincial de Alicante.
El edil ha recordado que toda persona que viva en España durante más de tres meses está obligada a solicitar residencia en España, y también que, con la inscripción en el padrón, “lo que se declara ante las autoridades es que se trata de una residencia habitual, por lo que hay que tener en cuenta que este hecho puede repercutir en aspectos administrativos o tener implicaciones fiscales”. Por su parte, Samantha Hull, concejala de Asuntos Sociales del área de urbanizaciones, ha indicado que también es importante que los ciudadanos se inscriban en este registro “para poder aparecer en las bases de datos del Ayuntamiento, y así poder optar a todos los servicios y ayudas disponibles para los residentes”.
El tríptico también incluye una sección que aclara los diferentes requisitos de inscripción en el padrón para los ciudadanos con nacionalidades pertenecientes a la Unión Europea y los no comunitarios, así como para los nacionales del Reino Unido que están protegidos por el Acuerdo de Retirada del ‘Brexit’. El documento incluye asimismo información para llevar a cabo el trámite de solicitud de residencia española. A fecha de 1 de enero de 2020, San Fulgencio contaba con 8.071 habitantes inscritos en el padrón municipal, de los que más de la mitad son de nacionalidad extranjera.

San Fulgencio Town Council has launched an information campaign on the municipal Padrón and residency applications aimed at citizens of different nationalities residing in the municipality. As indicated by the councillor for International Relations, Darren Parmenter, “the aim of this initiative is to inform and remind people what the Padrón is and how useful it is, and at the same time to dispel many of the myths that surround it which can sometimes lead to some reluctant to register”.
Over the next few days posters and leaflets translated into four languages (Spanish, English, French and German) will be distributed throughout the municipality, and will be available “both in the municipal buildings of San Fulgencio and in bars, cafes and local businesses in the town and urbanisations, available to any resident who needs them”, said Parmenter. The initiative has been carried out thanks to a grant of 1,380 euros from the Provincial Council of Alicante.
The councillor recalled that anyone living in Spain for more than three months is obliged to apply for Spanish residency, and also that, by registering on the Padrón, “what is declared to the authorities is that it is a habitual residence, so it should be borne in mind that this fact may affect administrative consequences or have tax implications”. For her part, Samantha Hull, councillor for Social Services for the urbanisations, has indicated that it is also important for citizens to apply for Spanish residency “in order to appear in the Town Hall’s databases, and thus be eligible for all the services and aid available to those official residents”.
The leaflet also includes a section clarifying the different registration requirements for citizens with EU and non-EU nationalities, as well as for UK nationals who are protected by the Brexit Withdrawal Agreement. The document also includes information on how to apply for Spanish residency. As of 1 January 2020, San Fulgencio had 8,071 inhabitants registered in the municipal Padrón, more than half of whom are foreign nationals.
